Unit 3 Concept 3 Flashcards
Producer
Get energy from nonliving sources.
Consumer
Gets energy from living or once-living organisms.
Detritivore
Eat dead materials.
Carnivore
Eat only meat.
Omnivore
Eat meat and vegetation.
Herbivore
Eat only vegetation.
Explain the difference between how autotrophs and heterotrophs acquire energy.
Autotrophs acquire energy from nonliving things like plants, some bacteria, and algae. Heterotrophs acquire energy from living or once-living organisms like animals, most bacteria, and fungi.
Explain the significance of detritivores (decomposers) in a food chain/food web.
While all the other consumer eat either meat or vegetables detritivores eat the remains of dead materials.
Use a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast photosynthesis and chemosynthesis.
Explain why the pyramid shape is used to represent energy, biomass, and numbers pyramids.
To show how energy flows through an ecosystem and demonstrate how everything works.
Draw an example of an energy pyramid and explain how energy flows through each level. Label the trophic level, classify the type of organism, and give an example of an organism at each level.
