Unit 3: 3 - Energy Calculations Flashcards
1
Q
What is the formula to find out the energy transferred to a substance?
A
Q = mcΔT
Heat energy transferred (J) = mass of liquid heated (g) × SHC of the liquid (J/g°C) × Change in temperature of the liquid (°C).
2
Q
Show the shape of the energy change on an exothermic reaction graph.
A
3
Q
Show the shape of the energy change on an endothermic reaction graph.
A
4
Q
Give the 2 main reasons why hydrogen (at the moment) could be polluting or unsustainable?
A
- Most hydrogen at the moment is made by reacting steam with coal or natural gas, which are both non-renewable;
- Hydrogen can be made by passing energy through water, however most electricity is generated using coal and other fossil fuels, so pollution from these fuels still occurs.
