what is polygamy?
having more than one spouse at a time. its a crime in most countries.
where is it legal?
certain muslim countries, eg india, malaysia, the philippines, singapore and sri lanka.
why is it legal?
the quran permits muslim men to marry up to four wives and polygamy has been practiced in some african societies.
what is cannabis?
laws vary widely - in general possession is treated more leniently than growing/supplying. it is illegal in the UK and most european countries.
where is it legal?
medical use in canada and some US states. decriminalised in portugal.
why is it legal?
societies with greater emphasis on personal freedoms are more likely to not see it as a criminal act and some governments see decriminalisation or legalisation as taking drugs out of the hands of criminals, other see cannabis as a gateway drug and seek to control its use.
what is homosexuality?
sexual acts between members of thr same sex.
where is it illegal?
75 countries outlaw male homosexuality. 45 outlaw lesbian activity. some countries ban homosexuality promotion, eg russia.
where is it legal?
UK, europe, north and south america.
why is it illegal?
many religions condemn homosexuality, some countries have a high level of support for a ban of homosexuality and make homosexuality being outlawed in more countries reflect sexist attitudes about women not being able to be attracted to members of the same sex.
what is adultery?
a sexual act between two people, one or both are married to someone else. (cheating)
where is it a crime?
many muslim countries, some christian african countries, 21 US states.
where is it legal?
most countries, including UK and india.
why is it legal?
many religious condemn adultery which can influence law making and most countries where women occupy a subordinate position have unequal laws which forbid adultery.
what is polygyny?
when a man has more than one wife at a time.
