What is health
A state of physical, mental and social well-being in which disease and infirmity are absent

What is depression
A mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness or loss of interest
What are the 2 types of depression
Major and manic
Major depression is..
Unipolar
Can occur suddenly
Can be reactive to external factors -eg) lost of loved one
Can be endogenous (internal factors)
Manic depression is..
Bipolar disease/disorder
Alternation between extreme moods- cyclical

What are clinical characteristics of depression
Physical- sleep distance, change in weight, social withdrawal
Cognitive- slower thought process, negative beliefs about themselves
Emotional- loss of interest and enjoyment in hobbies and life, diurnal mood variation (changes throughout the day
