Define fatigue.
A feeling of extreme physical or mental tiredness bought on by extreme exertion.
Define stress.
The body’s reaction to a change that requires a physical, mental or emotional adjustment.
State the two types of internally caused injuries (where a performer is solely responsible).
Overuse injuries and sudden injuries
State the 4 types of externally caused injuries (something else is responsible for the injury).
Foul play, Impact injuries, Equipment/clothing and Accidents
What are the four main common injuries?
Head injuries, fractures, hypothermia and joint and muscle injuries.
What does the RICE principle stand for?
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation
What is the word equation for aerobic respiration?
glucose+ oxygen –> energy+ carbon dioxide+ water
What sport requires you to respire aerobically?
Long distance runners
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration?
glucose–> energy–> lactic acid
What sport requires you to respire anaerobically?
Sprinters aka 100m runners
What are the four main sections of the heart?
Left ventricle, Right ventricle, Left atrium and Right atrium
What are the three blood vessels?
Arteries
Veins
Capillaries
What do the arteries do?
Carry oxygenated blood away from the heart
What do the veins do?
Carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart
What do the capillaries do?
Link the arteries and veins together
