What is a good decision?
A decision in which you have carefully considered the outcome of each choice, may also take communication skills.
What are communication skills?
Methods of expressing your thoughts and listening to what others say.
What is active listening?
Showing that you understand what someone is communicating, not just hearing it.
What are the steps of the decision making process?
- State the problem
- List possible choices
- Consider consequences and values
- Make a decision and act on it
- Evaluate your decision
What is assertiveness?
The ability and desire to express oneself openly and honestly, to speak up when needed and be courageous enough to stay true to your values and beliefs.
What are refusal skills?
Techniques and strategies that help you say “no” effectively when faced with something that you do not want to do or is against your values.
What is the refusal process?
- State your position simply but firmly.
- Suggest alternatives to the behavior being proposed that aligns with your values
- Back up your words with actions
What is conflict resolution?
The process of ending a conflict by cooperating and problem solving.
What are the three c’s to conflict resolution?
Communication, cooperation, and compromise.
What are the three R’s to conflict resolution?
Respect, rights, and responsibility.
What are some methods of handling peer pressure situations?
- Recognize peer pressure/manipulation
- LIsten to your inner voice
- talk to someone outside the group
- Imagine your parents can see you
- Ask, “Is it worth the risk?”
- Steer clear
- Say no
- Walk away
- Ignore
- Broken record (repeat yourself over and over until they stop asking)

What is peer-pressure?
pressure people of similar age or status place on a person to behave a certain way.
What is empathy?
sharing and understanding another person’s feelings
What is a relationship?
An emotional or social connection you have with another person or group
What is the basic unit of society?
Family
What are values?
Beliefs that you consider to be of great importance.
What is character?
The way a person thinks, feels, and acts
What is lifestyle?
A set of behaviors by which you live.
What is a nuclear family?
A couple and their children (biological or adopted) living together.
What is adoption?
When children are legally made part of another family.
What is divorce?
When married couples legally agree to end the relationship.
