Leader defines work to be
done, assigns task responsibilities, sets work

What are people oriented leaders?
Leader acts warm and supportive toward followers, maintains good social relations with them, respects their feelings, is sensitive to their needs and shows trust in them.
What are characteristics of people oriented leaders?
- Acts warm and supportive toward followers
- Develops social rapport with followers
- Respects the feelings of followers

What is a charismatic leader?
Develops special relationships with followers and inspire others in extraordinary ways.
What are transactional leaders?
- Someone who is methodical as a leader and keeps others
focused on progressing toward goal accomplishment. - Goal is to get things done
What are transformational leadership?
Someone who is truly inspirational as a leader and
who arouses others to seek extraordinary performance
accomplishments.

What is power?
Power is the ability to get
someone else to do
something you want done or
to make things happen the
way you want.

What is position power?
Based on a manager’s official status in the organization’s
hierarchy of authority
What are the types of position power?
Reward power: the capability to offer something
of value–a positive outcome–as a means of influencing
the behavior of other people.
Coercive power: the capability to punish as a
means of influencing the behavior of other people.
Legitimate power: the right by virtue of one’s
organizational position or status to exercise control
over persons in subordinate positions.
What is personal power?
Reflects the unique personal qualities that a person
brings to the leadership situation.
What are types of personal power?
Expert power: the capacity to influence the behavior
of other people because of one’s knowledge, understanding,
and skills.
Referent power: the capacity to influence the
behavior of other people because they admire you and want
to identify positively with you.
