What are the 5 personality traits?
- extraversion
- conscientiousness
- agreeableness
- openness
- neuroticism
What is extraversion?
Measure how energetic and sociable a person is
- higher means more extrovert
What is openness?
How open-minded a person is
What is conscientiousness?
Tendency to be organized and dependable, show self-discipline, aim for achievement.
What is neuroticism?
Reflects a person’s level of emotional stability -> high = negative personality
What is agreeableness?
How much someone puts others before themselves.
What is an attitude?
Tendency to respond + or - towards something that influences someones choice
3 components that influence attitudes?
- cognitive (belief or opinion)
- affective/emotional: reflects specific feeling
- behavioural: reflects intention to behave consistently with the belief and feeling
What is cognitive dissonance?
Describes the discomfort felt when one’s attitude and behavior is inconsistent
- TO RECOMBAT, tend to change attitude to fit behaviour
What is job satisfaction?
Degree to which an individual feels positive or negative about a job
- more job satisfaction = less absent and less quitting
What is job involvement?
the extent to which an individual is dedicated to a job
What is organizational commitment?
the loyalty of an individual to an organization
What is job performance?
The equation: performance = ability x support x effort
What is ability (job performance)?
Must have certain qualities to do a job (major in comp sci to work as a coder)
good training and development
What is effort (job performance)?
Willingness to work hard at tasks -> this is workers choice at end of day but managers can attempt to motivate
