Geologic Time Scale
a scale that divides Earth’s history into intervals of time defined by major events or changes on Earth
Uniformitarianism
the theory that states geological processes that happened in Earth’s past work the same way today.
Catastrophism
the theory that states most geological processes that happened on Earth, happen suddenly, like landslides and volcanic eruptions.
Paleozoic
the first era from the present eon, The Phanerozoic Eon. During this time, life began to flourish 🪸🐚🌊in the oceans.
Mesozoic
the second era from the present eon, The Phanerozoic Eon. During this time, dinosaurs ruled the Earth, and died out at the end of the Mesozoic Era.
Cenozoic
the third era from the present eon, The Phanerozoic Eon. This Era stretches from 65million years ago up to now
Jurassic Era
Lasted from about 201 to 145 million years ago. Dinosaurs roamed the area during the early Jurassic Era. This Era also included the breakup of Pangaea. The first birds also evolved in this era.
Carboniferous Period
Part of the Paleozoic Era and lasted from 359 to 299million years ago. Plants like lycophytes, ferns, and seed ferns thrived during this Period.
Era
a distinct period of time characterized by particular events, developments, or figures.
Epoch
a subdivision of a geological period
