Q

What are the 4 steps of homeostasis?

A
  1. Variable (Can be modified) ex.: Body temperature
  2. Receptor (Detect the change) ex.:Thermoreceptor
  3. Integrator/Control Center (Interpretation of info) ex.: Brain (CNS)
  4. Effectors (Response, acts on variable to bring values back to normal) ex.: Muscles and glands.

Q

What are two differences between the nervous and the endorcine system?

A

The nervous system sends quick nerve impulses while the endocrine system sends slow messages through hormones. AND the nervous system has a really shrt duration while the effects of hormones have a longer duration.

Q

What is a positive feedback loop?

A

It strenghtens or reinforces the initial stimulus. They do not happen often, since they can be life threatening for the body. Ex.: Blood clotting, ovulation, childbirth.
