what are enzymes ?
enzymes are proteins that speed up a reaction without being used up in the reaction
what is a catalyst ?
it is a substance that speeds up a reaction without being used up in the reaction.
what is a substrate ?
the substrate is the substance with which an enzyme reacts.
what is a product ?
the product is the substance(s) the enzyme form(s).
what factors can denature an enzyme ?
pH and temperature.
what is a denatured enzyme ?
a denatured enzyme is when an enzymes loses its shape and can no longer do its function.
what is bioprocessing ?
it is the use of enzyme-controlled reactions to produce a product.
what is a bioreactor ?
it is a vessel or container in which living cells or their products are used to make a product.
what are immobilised enzymes ?
they are enzymes that are attached, or fixed, to eachother, or to an inert material.
what is the active site ?
the active site is the part of an enzyme that combines with the substrate.
