what are the 5 parts of the spine?
Cervical Spine Thoracic Spine Lumbar Spine Sacrum Coccyx
What does the Cervical Spine allow?
Allows rotation for example turning your head
What does the Thoracic Spine allow?
Allows the same movement as the Cervical Spine but in smaller ranges
What does the Lumbar Spine allow?
Same movement as the two above but the movement is very limited
What movement does the Sacrum allow?
No movement
Reasons for a poor positioned spine (3)
- Driving and sitting at desk
- Exercise or Sport imbalances
- Age related or Medical conditions
What is scoliosis?
A lateral curve of more than 10 degrees
What is Hyperkyphosis?
(Hunchback) The muscles at the front of the chest and upper back are short and the muscles of the middle back are lengthened
What is Hyperlordosis?
(Hollow Back) The abdominal muscles are weaker and the back muscles are short and tight
