Q

Sum up the difference between the preterite and imperfect.

A

The preterite is used for actions completed at a definite time in the past- once and done actions or repeating actions with a start and finish. The imperfect is used for actions that repeat in the past with no definite start or end. Imperfect also sets the scene- weather, time, etc. Imperfect is often interrupted by the preterite, which is the main event.
