Describe the Rx Pergonal.
- fertility drug used to treat fertility issues in women
- causes/promotes ovulation
Woman must report for ultrasound testing to monitor follicular development
What is Primary Infertility?
Woman who has never been pregnant.
What is Secondary Infertility?
Woman who was previously pregnant, and now isn’t.
Sterility vs Infertility.
Sterility-Inability to conceive
Infertility- Inability to conceive and carry a child to term gestation when the couple has chosen to do so.
How long does sperm survive?
72 hours
Describe Basal Body Temperature.
Bi-phasic
Temp elevation that persists 12-14 days before menstruation. Rises after ovulation
Describe Estrogen and Progesterone during menstruation.
Estrogen in the beginning- starts “lady out the door”
Progesterone at the end “keeps the baby in the uterus”
What is Spinnbarkeit and why is this good for cervical mucus?
Refers to the stringy or stretchy property found to varying degrees in mucus, saliva, albumen and similar viscoelastic fluids.
Easier for sperm to swim. Happens during ovulation.
What is the milk producing hormone?
Prolactin
Describe a Postcoital test.
- Couple should abstain from intercourse 2-4 days before expected ovulation.
- Report for examination with several hours after sex.
- Determines how the sperm penetrate and survive in the cervical mucus
After what age does a woman fertility decrease? Men?
32 for woman
35 for men

What is a complication of ART (Assisted Reproductive Therapy)?
Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (you look pregnant overnight, edema, excessive eggs, etc.)
