What is a machine?

Something that transfers energy from one place to another or one form to another.

What does the energy we get out of a machine consist of?
A
Useful energy, which is transferred to the place or form we want.
Wasted energy, which is not transferred.

What will both useful and wasted energy do?
A
be transferred to the surroundings and warm them up.

Why is energy often wasted?
A
Because of the friction between moving parts which gets transferred to heat energy.

When is friction useful?
A
In brakes however some of the kinetic energy is transferred to heat.
