Unit 1-1.7- Energy transfer Flashcards
What effect does the temperature difference between an object and its surrounds have?
The greater the temperature difference between an object and its surroundings the greater the rate at which energy is transferred.
What 3 things also effect the rate at which energy is transferred?
The materials the object is in contact with.
The objects shape.
The object’s surface area.
How can we maximize the rate of energy transferred to keep things cool?
Are good conductors.
Are painted dull black.
Have the airflow around them maximized.
What things do we use to minimize the rate of energy transfer to keep things hot?
Are good insulators.
Are white and shiny.
Prevent convection currents by trapping air in small pockets.
