Unit 1-1.3- States of matter Flashcards
1
Q
What are the three states of matter?
A
Solid, liquid and gas.
2
Q
How can we make an object change in between the three states?
A
By heating or cooling it.
3
Q
What do the particles do in a solid?
A
In a solid, the particles vibrate about fixed positions so the solid has a fixed shape.
4
Q
What do the particles do in a liquid?
A
In a liquid, the particles are in contact with each other but can move about at random, so a liquid doesn’t have a fixed shape it can flow.
5
Q
What do the particles do in a gas?
A
In a gas, the particles are usually far apart and move at random much faster, so a gas doesn’t have a fixed shape and can flow.
6
Q
A gas is allot less what than solids and liquids?
A
Dense.
