What is a social contract?
An agreement between a governing body and the people for societal benefits
What document gave us our first form of government?
The first form of government in America came from the Articles of Confederation which gave the majority of the power to the states.
What are the two types of representation?
Equal representation and population based representation. Equal representation can be seen in the Senate and population based can be seen in the House of Representatives
Why did the South want slaves to be counted as a full person towards representation?
The South wanted slaves to be counted as a full person because they wanted greater representation in congress as almost 70% of the population was enslaved.
Why did the North not want the southern slaves to be counted towards representation?
The North did not want this because they didn’t want the South to get more representation in congress when they defined a slave as property.
What did the 3/5ths compromise state?
The 3/5ths compromise stated that slaves would be counted as 3/5ths of a person.
What is the necessary and proper clause?
If some power was not explicitly given to the government in the constitution but congress saw it as necessary and proper they could still use that power.
What is the Supremacy Clause?
It states that if the federal law and state law oppose each other, the federal law would override the state law.
What is the General Welfare Clause?
The general welfare clause makes the government to give the people the rights to make them happy
Who wanted the Bill of Rights to be added to the Constitution?
The Anti-Federlists wanted the Bill of Rights added to the Constitution to ensure that rights of the people were not threatened.

dividing government responsibilities between multiple groups or branches of people to limit power imbalance
Checks and balances
gives each branch the power to check other branches to prevent a power imbalance.
Autocratic government
A government ruled by one person
