• Cryptorchidism - complete absence of the testicle from the scotium
• retractile: genitila are normally deveoped but there is an excessive cremasteric reflex. Testicle found at external inguinal ring
• Maldescended testis- found anywhere along the normal path of descent from abdomen to groin
• ectopic testis- superior inguinal pouch but may also be abdominal, perineal, penile and in the femoral triangle
