Definition
A
Testicular torsion is the twisting of the spermatic cord, which supports the testes in the scrotum. When this occurs, blood supply is cut off to the testicles and nearby tissue in the scrotum

Symptoms
A
- sudden onset of pain in one testis, which makes walking uncomfortable.
- pain in the abdomen
- nausea or vomitting

Signs
A
- inflammation of one testis - tender, hot, swollen

Tests
A
- Doppler USS demonstrates lack of blood flow to testis
- isotope scanning

Q
the aim is to recognize this condition before the cardinal signs and symptoms are fully manfest as prompt surgery saves the tests
If surgery is performed in <6h the salvage rate is 90-100%
Ask for consent for possible orchidectomy + bilateral fixation
