Why are aerial photographs and satellite imagery useful in data collection?
Can provide a useful snapshot of a place. Possible to make links between physical and human environment. They can show differences in areas over time and different times of the year
Why is census data useful in data collection?
Provides a wide range of data. Shows patterns over time and trends in development of village growth
Why are OS maps useful in data collection?
Show how a settlement has grown over time. Looking back at very early stages of development
Why are county planning reports useful in data collection?
Show how plans change over time or village and transport developments. How has it changed over long periods of time
Why are old photographs, postcards and other memorabilia useful in data collection?
Show how settlements have adapted to change
What is meant by externality?
A factor that can not be changed by an individual but has a bearing on their quality of life (e.g. access to open space)
What is the purpose of questionnaires?
Access their attitudes to their housing, and their perceptions on other areas
What is the purpose of environmental surveys?
Examine their views on tangible factors (attractiveness, sense of community etc), externalities (landscape quality etc) and index of decay
