First modern police force formed in 1829 in Britain by Robert Peel
He set out 9 principles as General Instructions to new police officers from 1829 onwards
Principles included:
Police exist is to prevent crime and disorder
Police use physical force to the extent necessary
Police, at all times, should maintain a relationship with the public
