A person commits robbery if they steal and immediately before or at the time of doing so and in order to do so uses force on any person or puts or seeks to put any person in fear of being then and there subject to force.

A person commits robbery is they steal

Explain meaning of “steals” as applies Section 8 Theft Act 1968
Robbery can not occur without a theft taking place. Intent to permanently deprive the other of property
Explain “immediately before or at the time of doing so” as related to robbery
There must be an unbroken chain of events. Must be immediately before or at the time of appropriation of property.
Explain meaning of “in order to do so” as relates to Robbery
The force used or fear of force must be to commit theft. Cannot be to aid an escape.
