ultrastructure of plant cells Flashcards
1
Q
Structure of cell wall
A
- A rigid structure that surrounds plant cells. It’s made from the carbohydrate cellulose.
- Freely permeable so substances can pass into and out the cell through the cell wall.
2
Q
Function of cell wall
A
- Supports plant cell.
3
Q
What is the vacuole?
A
- Membrane lined sacs in the cytoplasm containing cell sap.
4
Q
Structure of chloroplast.
A
- A small, flattened structure found in plant cells.
- It’s surrounded by double membrane, and also has membranes inside called thylakoid membrane. These membranes are stacked up in some parts of the chloroplast to form grana.
- Grana are linked together by lamellae - thin, flat pieces of thylakoid membrane.
5
Q
Function of chloroplast
A
- Site where photosynthesis takes place.
-Some parts of photosynthesis happens in grana and other parts happen in stroma.
6
Q
What is stroma?
A
A thick fluid found in chloroplasts.
7
Q
What links grana in chloroplast together
A
Lamellae - thin, flat pieces of thylakoid membrane.
