What are decubitus ulcers?
A
Pressure ulcers that occur when the skin or underlying tissue is damaged
If very serious muscle and bone may be damaged

What are the main goals for ulcers?
A
- Prevent the development of ulcers by using special dressing and equipment and by regularly changing a patients position
- To treat by cleaning, treating with antibiotics, improved nutrition and severe cases surgery

- Change position
- Dressing
- Mattresses and cushions
- Antibiotics

A
An injury caused by thermal, electrical, chemical or radiation energy

What is a scald?
A
A burn caused by contact with a hot liquid or steam

What are the complications of burns?
A
- Smoke inhalation
- Fluid loss
- Muscle damage
- Infection
- Poisoning
- Scarring
- Death

How do you treat a burn?
A
- First aid - clean the wound with NaCl 0.9% or lukewarm water within 20 mins
- Don’t remove anything stuck to the skin
- Cling film or wound dressing
- Pain relief
- Assess need for tetanus
