* Signs & Symptoms
A
- Primary
- diarrhoea with blood
- hallmark of UC
- +/- mucus
- abdominal pain
- Secondary
- weight loss
- arthralgia
- anorexia
- nausea and vomiting
- Onset typically gradual
- followed by periods of spontaneous remission and subsequent
relapses

* Diagnosis
A
- Dx via colonoscopy and biopsy
- Supportive Inx
- raised CRP and ESR
- elevated faecal lactoferrin and calprotectin
- increased IP
- active UC associated with ↑ IP (Salim and Soderholm, 2011)
- increased IP can also occur in remission
- 28.1% compared with 6.1% in healthy controls (P < 0.001)
