What is a rural periphery?
An area away from the urban core
What are the issues with the rural periphery?
- there are lower paid jobs
- education is poor
- poor transport infrastructure
- older people may not find services suitable to their needs
Where is seaford? describe its population density and what it has to offer
In Lincolnshire, has a low population density but had good and outstanding schools and is one of the safest districts in Britain
Where is belper? Describe its population density and price of homes.
In Derbyshire, has a higher population density due to nice countryside views and homes as low as £159,000 as of December 2016
Give some positives of the rural periphery
There’s less crime, it’s cheaper housing and there’s a better quality of life
Name four ways rural areas are attracting companies to help them
Eu grants, enterprise zones, regional development grants and improvements made to transport
What are eu funds?
funds that help poorer regions of the eu but their gdp has to be over 75% below the su average and in 2015, only Cornwall qualified to receive them
What are enterprise zones?
Where UK governments offer help to companies with start-up costs, reduced taxes on profits and access to superfast broadband. In 2015 there were 24 enterprising but mostly in urban areas
What are regional development grants?
Similar to enterprising but available to places outside the UK also including grants to help start-up business targeted in peripheral areas but from the small investors must raise 5.5 times the amount of any government grant.
Describe the improvements to transport in the uk.
Vital in rural regions but neither England, Wales or Scottish highlands have motorways
