The shift of shopping activity and employment away from the CBD to new areas
Why’s decentralisation occurring more?
As people can now shop online, retail places are now built close to major roads so people don’t have to go to the Center
What is suburbanisation occurring?
Because the underground provides a good transport network around London, Rail electrification meant commuters in Guildford could be in London 50 minutes
Give an example of depopulation in London?
1/2 a million left the London boroughs due to deindustrialisation where by in 2001, only 7.5% worked in manufacturing in London
What did the closure of the London docklands cause?
Depopulation as there were no longer any jobs
What does centrify mean?
To renovate or improve an area so it appeals to middle-class taste
How could declines be reduced in Newham?
Encourage TNCs to base the headquarters of the European or UK branches in London. This provides long-term money forward towards the economy and encourages people to migrate there and further linking London with other cities
What is Brownfield?
An area of land previously used for industry when you buildings can be constructed
What is Studentification?
The part of cities where students live in large numbers due to things like universities being built
