U6 Terms Flashcards
Cellular respiration
Metabolic reactions that convert biochemical energy from food into the nucleotide ATP
ATP molecule
consists of a ribose group, a Adenine group and 3 phosphate groups
What is the Chem formula for photosynthesis
6CO₂ + 6H₂0 + Sunlight Energy → C₆H₁₂O₆ +6O₂
Is Photosynthesis Endo or Endergonic?
Endergonic because photosynthesis stores energy
What Electrons are released from water molecules when it enters the chloroplast?
O₂ and H+ ions
What are the 3 major processes of photosynthesis? Explain.
First process is when excited electrons leave the chlorophyll and reduce NADP+ into NADPH.
Second Processes is when excited electrons move through the ETC (electron transport chain) and provide free nrg needed to pump H+ ions into inner thylakoid
Lastly is when H+ ions flowing in and out of the Thylakoid provide free nrg to convert ADP into ATP
What is another name for photosynthesis?
The Calvin cycle
What are the 3 phases of the Calvin cycle?
Carbon Fixation, Reduction and Regeneration
What are the 2 phases of photosynthesis?
Light dependent and Light Independent reactions
What occurs in the Light Independent reaction?
Is the second phase. Uses stored chemical energy from the light-dependent reactions to “fix” CO2 and create a product that can be converted into glucose. Doesn’t need light to function.
What Occurs in the light dependent reactions?
Is the first phase. chlorophyll captures light energy in order to split water molecules producing O2 gas. Electrons and H+ ions are transferred to NADPH and ATP is produced. Occurs in the Thylakoid of the chloroplast.
What are the 4 phases of cellular respiration?
Glycolysis, the link reaction, the krebs cycle and oxidative phosphorylation
Which of the phases of cellular respiration produce ATP?
Glycolysis, the link reaction and oxidative phosphorylation
What is the chem formula for cellular respiration?
C6H12O6 + 6O2 –> 6CO2 + 6H2O + Chemical Energy (in ATP)
How many ATP molecules is produced from 1 glucose molecules?
38 ATP molecules
What occurs in the Glycolysis phase of cellular respiration?
Glucose is broken down into pyruvate and energy is produced.
What occurs in the Link reaction phase of cellular respiration?
takes the products of the first stage, glycolysis(pyruvate) and converts them into reactants that will enter the Krebs cycle
What Occurs in the oxidative phosphorylation?
takes the products of the first stage, glycolysis, and converts them into reactants that will enter the Krebs cycle
