U4: 4.1 Flashcards
Plate Tectonics
Describe the makeup and movement of tectonic plates
Divergent Plate Boundary: description
Plates move away fom each other, rising magma plumes forces plates apart
Divergent Plate Boundary: location/landforms
Mid-oceanic ridges, volcanoes, seafloor spreading, rift valleys (on land), and earthquakes
Convergent Boundary: description
Plates move toward each other, which leads to subduction (one plate being forced another)
Convergent Plate Boundary: location/landforms
Island arcs, mountains, earthquakes, and volcanoes
Transform Fault Plate Boundary: description
Plates slide past each other in opposite directions
Transform Fault Plate Boundary: location/landforms
Earthquakes
Describe how the Andes Mountain range was formed
Explain the difference between the formation of volcanic islands
