U3 KA3: Photosynthesis Flashcards
1
Q
What is photosynthesis?
A
- the process by which plants take energy from sunlight, and convert it into glucose.
2
Q
What is the role of Chlorphyll in photosynthesis?
A
- to trap light energy and convert it into chemical energy.
3
Q
What happens in the light reaction stage of photosynthesis?
A
- light energy is absorbed by chlorophyll around converted into chemical energy used to make ATP.
- some chemical energy is used to split oxygen and hydrogen.
- the oxygen is a by-waste product and diffuses out of the cell.
4
Q
What happens in the Carbon Fixation stage of Photosynthesis?
A
- enzymes use energy from the ATP made in the light reactions to combine Hydrogen and Carbon Dioxide.
- The product is Glucose.
5
Q
What 3 factors can affect the rate of Photosynthesis?
A
- Light Intensity
- Co2 concentration
- Temperature
6
Q
What is a limiting factor?
A
- something that is in short supply and is preventing the rate of photosynthesis from being any higher.
