U2 KA2: Control and Communication Flashcards
1
Q
What is the Nervous System?
A
- the body’s command system controlling movement, thoughts and automatic responses.
2
Q
What is the Nervous System made up of?
A
- the Central Nervous System (CNS) and other nerves.
3
Q
What is the Central Nervous System made up of?
A
- brain and spinal cord.
4
Q
What are Neurons?
A
- cells of the Nervous system that carry electrical impulses.
5
Q
What are Synapses?
A
- gaps between Neurons that have chemical messages transferred through them.
6
Q
What is the role of the Sensory Neurone?
A
- detects changes in the environment.
7
Q
What is the role of the Inter Neurone?
A
- act as a link bridge between Sensory and Motor Neurons for electrical impulses.
8
Q
What is the role of the Motor Neurone?
A
- to allow movement by stimulating muscles to move.
9
Q
What is a Reflex?
A
- an automatic, involuntary reaction that the body has in response to a stimuli.
10
Q
What are the 3 main parts of the Brain?
A
- Cerebrum (Top)
- Cerebellum (Back)
- Medulla (Front)
11
Q
What does the Cerebrum control?
A
- emotion, movement and memory.
12
Q
What does the Cerebellum control?
A
- balance and co-ordination.
13
Q
What does the Medulla control?
A
- unconscious actions like breathing rate.
14
Q
What do Endochrine glands do?
A
- release hormones into the bloodstream.
15
Q
What are hormones?
A
- chemical messengers.
