Who is Federick Douglass?
He was a leading figure in the abolitionist movement. He advocated for the the immediate release of enslaved people in USA and emphasizes the power of education as a way to achieve freedom and equality.
What was the reconstruction era (1865 - 1877)?
It was when enslaved peoples were granted freedoms (june 19th in USA and august 1st in CAN). It was a period of reconstruction and hope. Many black men were given land rights, voting rights, and positions in power.
What was the jim crow era (1870 - 1960)?
It was marked as the reversal of progress. The KKK emerged. It was a period characterized by racial segregation, discrimination, and the suppression of civil rights. Science used fake facts to ‘prove’ that racial segregation existed biologically in order to justify the laws.
What was the civil rights act in 1964?
It was the act that ended the jim crow era as it outlaws discrimination based on race, religion, sex, identity, and marked the end of racial segregation in social institutions.
Who was viola desmond?
She was a Canadian civil rights activist who challenged anti-black racism and stood up for women’s rights. She faced racism and was kicked out of a theater for being in the “whites only” section and was jailed because of it.

Rosa parks was an american civil activist who challenged racial inequality and segregation laws by refusing to give up her bus seat to a white man.

Martin jr was a was an american social rights activist who was a leader in the civil rights movement and advocated for African Americans to receive social equality.
