U2 Cells: Ls 02: Basic cell structure Flashcards
What is the difference between cytoplasm and cytosol?
Cytoplasm refers to the fluid and the things in the fluid, whereas cytosol refers to the fluid only.
How are ribosomes also called as?
Ribosomes are almost known as the protein factories of living organisms.
What is a pseudopod?
Pseudopod which is referring to it being a false foot. It is used by amoeba to move around or to attack something that it wants to engulf.
What is a cilia?
Cilia is a short hair-like structure surrounding the cell. They tend to move around in unison to either allow the microorganisms to move around or are sometimes used to moving other things around.
What is an organell?
Specialised cell structure performing specific functions.
What are the common cell organelles?
Cell membrane, cell wall, cytoplasm, ribosomes, and other cell movement structures.
What is a flagella?
A wing/tail-like structure propelling the cell forward.
What is genetic information?
All cells contain genetic information for cellular activities.
