U2 Cells: Ls 01:Introduction to cells Flashcards
What are Microscopes used for?
Microscopes are used to study cells which are generally small and cannot be seen with the naked eye.
What are compound microscopes?
Compound microscopes have multiple lenses that can bend light to produce a magnified image.
Why cannot more complex microscopes produce inverted images?
More complex microscopes cannot produce inverted images due to the additional lens that “ re-inverts” the image back to its normal size.
What is maginification?
Magnification is the size of an object magnified by a microscope or lens.
What is resolution?
Resolution is the smallest distance between two points that can be separated and distinguished as objects: high magnification and low resolution result in blurry images.
What are light microscopes?
The microscopes in which the visible light passes through the specimen and bends through the lens system allowing a magnified image.
What are bright field microscopes?
The microscopes in which the visible light is passed through the sample and used to form an image directly.
What are fluorescence microscopy?
The microscope images the samples absorbing one wavelength of the length of light and emitting another
what is a Confocal microscopy ?
The microscope that uses a laser to excite a thin layer of the sample and collect only the emitted light from the target layer.
What are electron microscopes?
It is an advanced type of light microscopy which can produce very high-resolution images.
