Typical Vertebra Flashcards
Vertebrae have two basic parts which surround a hole in the center called the what?
Vertebral foramen
What runs through the vertebral foramen?
The spinal cord
The anterior portion of the vertebra is called what?
The body
Define the vertebra body
Anterior portion of the vertebra, it bears the most weight and I’d the largest part
Define intervertebral disc and location
Rest between vertebrae, they absorb shock
What is the remainder of the vertebra
Vertebral arch
What are the parts of the most lateral parts of the vertebral arch?
Transverse process, extend to the right and left
pedicles connect what to the body?
Pedicles connect the transverse process to the body
Define spinous process and what it does
The most posterior region of the vertebra, provides attachment site for muscles
What does the laminae do?
Connects the spinous process to the transverse process.
Where are superior articular processes and facets located?
On the top surface of the vertebra, at the points where the laminae and pedicles meet
Where are inferior articular processes and facets located?
On the interior surface of the vertebra
Define intervertebral foramina and what runs through them
Form from notches on the superior and inferior surfaces of the pedicles , spinal nerves run through these foramina
