Muscles Of Te Back ( Deep And Superficial) Flashcards
Erector spinal has three groups of muscles, what are they?
Erector spinal
Transversospinalis
Splenius
Where is the splenius located and what is the function
Located between the vertebrae and skull, responsible for moving head
Where is the trasversospinalis and what’s is the function
Located between vertebrae to the next vertebrae, responsible for rotating the vertebra column
Define erector spinal function and location
The erector spinae muscles lie on each side of the vertebral column and extend alongside the lumbar, thoracic, and cervical sections of the spine. The erector spinae muscles function to straighten the back and provide for side-to-side rotation.
Define trapezius and explain function
Most superficial muscle on the posterior trunk , responsible for retracting, elevating , and depressing the scapula
Define latissimus dorsi and location
Large superficial muscle on the lumbar region of the back.
Define levator scapulae
Lateral to splenius is the levator scapulae, this Muscle originates on the cervical vertebrae and elevates the scapula
Define Rhomboids
Inferior to levator scapulae is the rhomboids, which originate on the thoracic vertebra, inserts on the medial border of the scapula , and retract the scapula
