What is the sternum commonly referred to as?
The breast bone
Where is the sternum found and what is it’s function?
It is found in the center of the anterior side of the thoracic cage ,and it protects the heart
What are the three sections of the sternum?
Manubrium , body and xiphoid process.
Where is the manubrium of the sternum located? And what is its function?
The superior most region of the sternum, it articulates with the clavicular notches.
What are the two notches sat the top of the sternum?
Clavicular notch and jugular notch
What is the ridge at the base of the manubrium called?
Sternal angle
What is the final region of the sternum called?
Xiphoid process
What is the xiphoid process shapes like ? And how long does it stay in its cartilage state?
An arrowhead and its stays until about 40 years of age
