What is tourism
The movement of people to contries or places outside their usual environment.
What is the UNWTO?
Stands for United Nations World Tourism Organization.
The agency for world tourism- responsible for the promotion, sustainable and universally accessible tourism
Types of Travel: Leisure
Travel for pleasure and enjoyment. For example, package holidays, short/city breaks, travel for events. Leisure travellers spend on accomodation, public transprot, visitor attractions like museums and theme parks, meals and snacks.
Types of Travel: Corporate- travel for work/business
For example, Conference meetings, training, work in another location. Another form is incentive travel- a reward of a holiday for reaching targets/good performance. High-spenders on high-quality city-centre accommodation, Uber and taxis, eating out in restaurants/room service. Can claim on expenses.
Types of Travel: Specialist
Travel for specific reasons that require services outisde normal holidays. For example, honeymoons, ski holidays, gap years etc. These types of travel normaly have specific companies catering for them.
Types of Travel: Visiting Friends and Relatives (VFR)
Tourists who are travelling to visit their freinds or family- usually for leisure and usually stay with the people they’re visiting. Can be domestic, inbound or outbound. Stay longer than other groups, and often travel with lots of baggage. May travel irregularly. Don’t spend a lot of money, as they stay with friends and family and eat also.

A person travelling on their own or as a part of a couple

Groups of relaives. Can come with different requirements depending on type of relatives. Want safety and security, value for money, convenience and fun. Oftrn travel with baggage and book in advance to save/plan.

Can include school/friend/special interest groups. Have different needs depending on what the group is travelling for. Want tailored tours and itineraries.
Types of travel and tourism customer: Customers with specific requirements
Customers with an extra need or requirement, may be due to different languages, disabilities or medical issues. For example, providing maps and guides in different languages, whellchair accessibility, providing induction loops for hearing impairment, braille for those who are visually impaired, providing clear visual instructions.
