Types Of Training Flashcards
What is circuit training?
A style of workout where you cycle through several exercises targeting different muscle groups
Advantages of circuit training
Simple to complete
Adapted depending on age
Disadvantages of circuit training
Lots of space required
Needs expensive equipment
What’s continuous training?
An activity that is repeated over and over again, it is used to improve cardiovascular endurance
Advantages of continuous training
No equipment required
Can do it anywhere
Disadvantages of continuous training
Boring to complete
Time consuming
What’s fartlek training?
Continuous training that gets harder the more you do it eg running on flat, then increasing gradient
Advantages of fartlek training
Easily adapted to suit the individuals needs
Less boring than continuous training
Disadvantages of fartlek training
High intensity so difficult to self motivate
What is altitude training?
Training at a high altitude usually 2000 m or more above sea level there is less oxygen in the air at the altitude. This makes train very difficult as a body finds it harder to carry oxygen to the working muscles. as a result the body compensate by making more red blood cells to carry oxygen that is in the air.
Advantages of altitude training
Benefits endurance athletes (marathon runners)
Disadvantages of altitude training
Doesn’t last long (1week)
Hard to complete
What is interval training?
A type of training that involves alternating periods of work with periods of rest
Advantages of interval training
Burns body fat in calories quickly and can be completed quite quickly
Disadvantages of interval training
Extreme work can lead to injury and high levels of motivation needed
What is plyometric training?
A type of training that is used to increase power
Advantages of plyometric training
Requires little or no equipment and increases power
Disadvantages of plyometric training
Can cause DOMS and can overstress the joints of muscles resulting in injury
What are the four stages of a warmup?
Pulse razor
Stretching
Skills practice
Mental preparation
Benefits of a warmup
Increases body temperature
Reduces risk of injury
Improves oxygen transport to the working muscles
What are the two stages of the cooldown?
Pulse lowering
Stretching
Benefits of a cooldown
Removes lactic acid
Helps repay oxygen debt
