What is a arousal?
A physical and mental state of alertness ranging from deep sleep to extreme excitement
What does the inverted U theory mean?
Explain the link between arousal and performance in sports
What are fine skills?
Skills that’s require accuracy and are best performed in low levels arousal e.g. snooker
What are gross skills?
Skills that require strength and large movements. They are best performed at high level of arousal
How does deep breathing help to control arousal?
Increases oxygen supply to the brain and focuses mind on the task

What is intrinsic motivation?
You do it because you enjoy it
What is extrinsic motivation?
You do it for money or a reward

They take longer to master high levels of concentration needed

Affected by the environment, e.g. teammates and opposition

Performed in an environment that stays the same
What is a self paced skill?
Start time is controlled by the performer and so is everything
What is externally paced skills?
Everything is controlled by an external factor, e.g. opposition
