Q

What are APVs?

A

-Approach with vertical and lateral guidance
-Not a precision approach
-Doesn’t get data from ground sources (Does not mean ICAO Annex 10)
-Has a DA

Q

Type of APVs?

A

-LNAV/VNAV (Requies WAAS)
-LPV (WAAS GPS) (more precise, tapers down as you get closer)
-LDA+ Glide Slope

Q

Types of Non-precision approaches?

A

-Localizer
-Localizer Type Directional Aid (LDA)
-Simplified Directional Facility (SDF)
-LNAV (most basic)
-LP (tapers off, like an LPV just no vertical)
-VOR (use radial to fly an approach)
-NDB Approach
-Approach Surveillance Radar (only lateral guidance)

A

-Category A: Speed 90 knots or less. (Us)
-Category B: Between 91 and 120 knots.
-Category C: Between 121 and 140 knots.
-Category D: Between 141 knots and 165 knots.
-Category E: Speed 166 knots or more.

Q

Difference between Localizer Type Directional Aid (LDA) and a Simplified Directional Facility (SDF)

A

-Localizer Type Directional Aid (LDA) are not aligned with the runway but are more accurate
-Simplified Directional Facility (SDF) 6-12 degrees wide and are less accurate

Q

Difference between Approach Surveillance Radar (ASR) and Precision approach radar (PAR)

A

-ASR are non-precision approaches with no vertical guidance and an MDA.
-PAR are a precision approach with a DA
-Minimums can be found in the TPP

Q

DA vs DH vs MDA

A

-DA uses MSL (must go around once you hit DA)
DH- Uses AGL (must go around once you hit DH)
MDA- Uses MSL (can contiunte on until MAP)
