ILS Components Flashcards
What are the components of the ILS?
- Guidance
- Visual
- Range
Define Guidance
-Localizer:Left to right guidance (90hz and 150hz, want to be in the middle)
-1.5-3.0 degree for full scale
-Locazlicer array the Located on-departure end
-Glide slope: Up down guidance (90hz and 150hz, want to be in the middle)
-Located in the touchdown zone
-0.7nm can be a full-scale deflection
Define Visual
-The airport itself
-Runways
-Airport lighting
-91.175 (requirements to land)
Define Range
-DME On chart, see how many DME to see when at point
-Marker Beacon- Outer Marker (OM), Middle Marker (MM), Inner Marker (IM)
Localizer (Width, Coverage, Back course, reverse sensing?)
-700 feet wide at the approach end of the runway (longer runways are more sensitive because it has more length)
-Back course/reverse sensing: Follow the needle (does not happen in our planes)
Glideslope (Width, Range, Slope, Errors)
-Transmits a glide slope beam 1.4 degrees vertically,
-0.7 degrees would be a full-scale deflection,
-Can be picked up 10nm
-False glide slope if intercepted from above (insane fpm descent)
Marker Beacon Colors/Point?
Outer Marker (OM) Blue FAF for NPA
Middle Marker (MM) Yellow CAT I DA
Inner Marker (IM) White CAT II DH
