Q

What is habitat biodiversity?

A

variety of habitats in an area or ecosystem e.g. ponds, woodland, streams

the greater the number of habitats, the greater the number of niches, the more niches the more number of species

Q

What is species biodiversity?

A

1) species richness - number of different species present in a area/ecosystem
2) species eveness - a measure of the relative number of individuals in each species in an area/ecosystem
e. g. woodland has 40 species = species richness = 40

e.g. habitat has a high abundance of grass + rabbits but low
abundance of other species = low species evenness

Q

What is genetic biodiversity?

A

variety of alleles in a species/population

e. g. dogs - many breeds so more variety in their alleles - high genetic biodiversity
e. g. koalas - low genetic diversity (one breed - sub species - one type of koala)
