Type II Flashcards

1
Q

Cytotoxic Reactions

A
  • Autoantibodies directed against self cells tht have foreign protein or other antigen
  • Autoantibodies bind w/ self cell creating immune complex
  • Self cell destroyed w/ attached protein
  • EX
    > hemolytic transfusion reactions; pt receives wrong blood type during tansfusion

A
  • Stop offending drug or blood product
  • Plasmapheresis
    > filtration of blood to remove antibodies

Q

Hemolytic Crisis

A
  • Large #s of RBCs are destroyed over short time
  • Body can’t make enough RBCs to replace destroyed RBCs
    > severe anemia leads to kidney damage
  • Precipitated by nonspecific factors
    > infection, surgery, & transfusion
    > kidney damage occurs due to large deposits of debris & clotting
