Type 2 Hypersensitivity Flashcards
What is the target of Type 2 Hypersensitivity?
Cell-Bound antigen
What are examples of Cell-Bound antigens?
Exogenous: Blood group antigens, Rhesus D antigens)
Endogenous: self-antigens
What does Type 2 hypersensitivity involved in regards to immune system?
- IgG or IgM antibodies
- Complement Activation
What is the role of IgG or IgM antibody activation?
-Antibody dependant cell cytooxicity
What does complement activation involve?
- Cell lysis through membrane attack complex
- Neutrophil recruitment/activation (C3a/C5a)
- Opsonisation (C3b)
What is the time scale of Type 2 hypersensitivity reactions?
5-12 hours
What are the outcomes of Type 2 Hypersensitivity?
- Tissue/Cell damage
- Physiological Change
What are disease examples of Type 2 Hypersensitivity Reactions?
- Haemolytic Disease of the new-born: Rhesus D
- Transfusion reactions: A/B antigens
