  • Autoimmune disorder of the neuromuscular transmission
  • Disorder mediated by antibodies against the post synaptic acetylcholine receptor or by antibodies against muscle specific tyrosine kinase

What are the symptoms of Myasthenia Gravis?

A
  • Diplopia
  • Ptosis
  • Muscle weakness-
  • Bulbar weakness (dysphagia, choking or nasal regurgitation of fluids if severe)

What are complications of Myasthenia Gravis?

A

Myasthenia crisis which precipitates into acute respiratory failure that require mechanical ventilation

  • Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (Pyridostigmine)
  • Steroids (prednisolone)
  • Rituximab
