2 groups:
Ascending condition
Descending condition
- Participants in the ASC condition were asked to quickly estimate the value of 8 x 7 x 6 x 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 8
- Participants in the DESC condition were asked to quickly estimate the value of 1 x 2 x 3 x 4 x 5 x 6 x 7 x 8
- Both given 5 seconds for estimation

The median for the ascending group was 512, whilst the median for the descending group was 2250

Evaluation
A
Strengths:
- Easily replicable
- Highly controlled
- Use of median diminished the influence of outliers in the data
Limitations:
- Low ecological validity due to artificial situation
- Independent samples design introduced participant variability (different math competencies)
