2095 Asian American with 1271 of participants being first generation immigrants and the rest of the sample was born in the US to first generation parents.

Procedure
A
Participants went through semi-structured interviews with an interview who had similar cultural background to them.
The interviews were designed to understand the extend of the participants’ level of acculturative stress.

A
70% of the sample reported having acculturative stress.

Findings
A
- Bilingual ability contributed to lower acculturative stress since these individuals could build strong networks of support within and outside of their community. Those who did not know their native language as well found it difficult to discuss sensitive issues with family members.
- Only being able to speak English was a predictor of high acculturative stress
- Negative experiences like prejudice and harassments was a strong predictor for higher acculturative stress
- Sharing similar values with family members predicted lower acculturative stress
- Satisfaction with economic opportunities was a predictor for lower acculturative stress
