Tubes, Tire, and Wheels Flashcards
What are the three types of tires used in CG aviation?
Type III, Low Pressure (Landing friction is not important like on Helos and light weight aircraft, have beads of smaller diameter, larger volume, and lower pressure) Type VII, Extra High Pressure (high load capacity and narrow width, used in military and civilian jets) Type VIII, low profile high pressure (very high take off speeds, high load capacity and wider than VII)
How is tire size determined?
The overall outside diameter or the tire, the cross sectional width, and teh rim diameter. (22x6.6-10 would mean: 22 outside diameter, 6.6 cross sectional width, 10 rim diameter)
How are vent holes marked in tube-type tires?
Silver or white dot
How are vent holes marked in tubeless tires?
Green dot or triangle
Tire slippage marks are required on all tube-type tires inflated to less than __ psi and all ____ tube-type tires.
150, helicopter
Slippage marks must align withing __in or the wheel assembly should be removed for repair.
1/4
Tire pressures exceeding ___psi on operating aircraft shall be checked and serviced during each daily inspection.
50
Tire pressure exceeding 50 psi on aircraft that have not been towed or taxied in over 7 days shall be checked and serviced how often?
At least once every 7 days
____________ is preferred for tire inflation of high pressure tires rather than compressed air.
Type 1 oil free nitrogen.
Why is nitrogen preferred for tire inflation of hire pressure tires?
Nitrogen pressure will not vary due to temperature and altitude changes.
What are the 5 most critical reasons for discarding a tube?
Thinning of the tube, wrinkles, folds, beads chafing, cuts or damage.
All CG aircraft use what type wheels?
Split type.
